JOSH’S PERSPECTIVE
The Story Behind The Mission
Josh has spent enough time around blasts to know they do not always leave visible damage. This page is where he shares the personal side of the mission — what he has seen, what he has learned, and why blast-related brain injury deserves more attention, better understanding, and real access to treatment.
The main Blastology Foundation site explains the mission. The Blastologist gives you the story behind it.
Field notes
from the blastologist
Blast exposure is not harmless just because the injury is not visible. IEDs, breaching, mortar fire, heavy weapons, and repeated training blasts all send force through the body and brain. These are Josh’s notes on what that force can do, what often gets missed, and why traumatic brain injury must be treated as a physical injury.
-

Nobody Walks Away Unharmed
If the body absorbs the force of a blast, the brain absorbs it too. The injury may not be visible from the outside, but that does not mean the brain was spared.
-

It Is Not Just IEDs
IEDs are the obvious example, but they are not the only source of damage. Breaching, mortar fire, heavy weapons, and repeated training blasts can create cumulative injury over time.
-

This Is A Physical Injury
TBI is not a feelings issue. It is physical damage to the brain. Therapy may help someone cope with life after injury, but it does not repair a concussion.
The Next Fight
Life after the military
The mission just changed. After medically retiring after 15 years of service, Josh found adaptive sports, went all in, and competed twice at the Warrior Games and twice at the Invictus Games — earning gold in archery and bronze in golf. After that, he kept showing up as a coach, helping other athletes get back in the fight.
Then he went to law school and earned his JD.
Now The Blastologist is where Josh brings that same focus to blast-related brain injury, treatment access, and the mission behind Blastology Foundation.
